Workshop: The Nag Hammadi Codex Work
Recreate a historically important model of the oldest known complete codex binding.
This one-day workshop explores the construction techniques used in the famous Nag Hammadi Codices, discovered in a large ceramic jar on the banks of the Nile River. Dating from around 400 AD, these manuscripts are among the oldest surviving complete codex bindings.
Participants will create a sympathetic reconstruction using historically appropriate materials and techniques, including Egyptian papyrus, goatskin leather, and traditional paste adhesives. The workshop is intended for participants with previous bookbinding experience.
The workshop is limited to 6 participants and includes all materials.What’s Included:
