Happenings at the Guild April 2022

Greetings to all,

Autumn is a delightful time in Melbourne, calm days, brisk nights, and some holidays to break up the normal working weeks, though the last few years have been other than normal. The celebration of Easter was a delight, meeting with many friends who we normally see only over Easter, volunteer serving coffee at the coffee shop and welcoming lots of others. This is followed by the somber Anzac reminder that life hasn’t always been normal, even without Covid.

Our meeting this week Tuesday night at West Hawthorn Uniting will be an open meeting, all are welcome, and we have Debra Parry, Vice President , and professional Conservator , showing us repairs to damaged pages. All are welcome, but if you cannot attend, it will be zoomed with the assistance of Tim Morrow, our resident tech man, teaching us how to up our game in regards to those presentations. Contact Liz Forbes, treasurer.

Name: You many have noticed the banner of the website has changed. To more properly represent our activities we have listed the names Bookbinding Victoria and Bookbinders Victoria. This is in part as a result of our surveys showing that the idea of the Guild conjures up the idea of a professional association, with all sorts of requirements for membership. Our members no longer are all professional. We are interested in your feedback.

Equipment for sale: see the list if you are very interested please do not tarry, contact me president@vbg.net.au and I may be able to take some of the items to the meeting.

Marbling trays: I am also hanging off the final production of the marbling trays, hoping for a few extra orders to make production more efficient.

Materials: I will also have some materials at the meeting, some new materials and some from members surplus.

A NEW HOME: The Church is being listed for sale, so we do not know for how much longer we will have the user of the facilities. The committee have been spending some time looks and preparing a presentation outlining our requirements in a form acceptable to various bodies who may have properties available for rent. If you know of a facility that may suit our needs, please contact myself or Mary, with your suggestions and if possible contact information.

Clunes BookWeek: We will be at Clunes on 30th April to 1st May presenting Bookbinders Victoria. Make sure you say hello in the Granite Church where we will be located. We will be displaying some goods and doing some demonstrations.
